A boat trip to a half-submerged cave on the west coast. You swim in under the rock, and sunlight coming through the underwater entrance turns the whole chamber blue. The tour runs about five hours and includes lunch, drinks, and snorkel gear.

A morning on the dive boat — two guided reef dives on the south coast, with tanks, weights, and a divemaster included, and you're back at the dock by half past twelve. You'll both need your Open Water certification.

Learn to dive together

The PADI Open Water course with Scubaçao. You do the theory online before you go, then spend about two and a half days on pool sessions and four real dives on the reef. At the end, you're both certified to dive anywhere in the world.

A guided safari-truck tour of the biggest ostrich farm outside Africa — you can feed them, and they'll let you stand on an egg. Afterwards there's lunch at the Zambezi restaurant on the farm, which really does serve ostrich.

Sunset ride on the beach

A guided horseback ride in the late afternoon — most run about ninety minutes, and some end with the horses wading into the sea. No riding experience needed. A few ranches on the island offer them, so pick whichever one you like the look of.

A guided four-hour ATV tour through the backcountry on a two-seater you share — one drives, one hangs on, and you can trade off. The route stops at caves, hilltop viewpoints, the flamingos near Sint Willibrordus, and Kokomo Beach for a swim. All you need is a regular driver's license.
